They sound far apart, but they are actually very closely related. Without the imagination required to role-play, one would never be able to imagine the poetry that plays sweet music to our ears.

Here's a little about me if you care. I am 29 years old, married to a beautiful red-head, and have two children. I have been a volunteer fireman for 13 years now. I also volunteer my time for the EMS and I am a member of the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) at my job. As for my writing, it has been a hobby of mine since I was very little. There is not a day that goes by that I don't get a new idea for a short story or poem.
Most people can't understand what the big deal about poetry is so let me explain if I may. To a poet, or at least this one...it is a way to express that which can not be expressed through voice. Rather, it gives us a chance to tell someone...the reader...everything we feel about ourselves without interuption or comments to throw off our train of thought. Through poetry, we can vent our frustrations, revel in our happiness, or shed silent tears through the outlet of words.
The connection to fantasy is that by playing Dungeons and Dragons for eleven years, it enhanced my mind to imagine situations and the solutions for them. For without the capability to imagine and picture intangible things, one can not display the creativity needed to transform feelings that are hidden in your heart where no one can see them into a tangible reality that can be transfered to the reader's heart through your words...
